Species: Northern Pike, Lake Trout
Time of year: Spring, Summer, Fall
How to Fish: The great thing about Daredevle is they work good trolling and casting.
Choosing Color: The red and white or the yellow diamonds were always in my Grandfather's tackle box for his Canada outfitter. I recommend nickel patterns when its sunny. On cloudy days or if the water is very stained use copper or gold patterns. We like the rainbow trout pattern for lake trout.
Why: Dardevle spoons were invented in 1906 on an Ontario fishing trip. Perfected over the next several years and started selling in 1912. Daredevle has proven to be a deadly spoon for Pike. Don't bother with imitations.
Tips: I
- If you are chasing pike use a steel or heavy fluorocarbon leader.
- Use a quality ball bearing swivel to reduce line twist
- Don't past up a beaver dame or down timber without making a few cast.
- Later in the year look for cabbage beds and weed edges with deep water close by.
