How to Fish: Slip bobber with live bait is one of the deadliest methods.  It great for kids and us that still want to be kids.  Seeing the bobber slowly slip underwater gets the heart pounding.

Choosing Size: You want a bobber that is balanced well with your weight, so the fish doesn't fill the resistance. You can go with a very light bobber in calm situations, and for rougher conditions, choose a bigger bobber.

Leeches are my preferred bait because you can keep them alive for your whole trip. Target shoreline, bays, and humps that are windswept bring fish in to feed on scattered bait.

Why: Evening bites into the dark are when the larger walleye show up.  Without a lighted bobber, you will be going back to camp too early.  Lighted bobbers allow you to soak a leech from camp while sitting around the fire.

Tips:

  • Last for at least 30 hours. Once it runs out of battery, you still have a good slip bobber.
  • Have several different sizes so you can match the size of bait and water conditions
  • Pick island or point campsites with good fish structure right offshore good for night fishing while you are at camp.
